Saxophone Quartet with Doubles

Instrumentation:

Written in four movements played without interruption, 11 instruments are played by the four members of the quartet. Commissioned by Nancy Newman, this piece was premiered at the World Saxophone Congress, Montreal, Canada, in 2000, by The Phenix Saxophone Quartet.

Balto Clute (2002)

Alto Flute and Bass Clarinet Duet

Written for Alto Flute in G and Bass Clarinet to low C, includes an improvised solo for the alto flute.

Conversation for Two Baritone Saxophones

Written for Nancy Newman of the Gerald Danovitch and Phenix Saxophone Quartets, the piece features both parts equally. Both parts go to low A and the 1st part uses the altissimo to high Bb.

Siciliano (Bach), for Clarinet and Rhythm (1998)

Instrumentation:

• Clarinet in Bb

Taken from the Sonata #2 in Eb for Flute and Piano, after the statement of the piece as Bach wrote it, an improvised section begins for the clarinet. Clarinet can improvise or play written solo and the piano part is written out. Can be played with or without bass and drums.

In this piece the theme is played in f# minor and goes to g minor for the improvised flute solo. Both flute and piano have chord changes. Piano solos in the next section before the recapitulation.
